ну, насчет "для красоты" я сгоряча, конечно.
вообще, конструкцию WTC описывают как "tube within a tube".
"With the central core bearing the weight of the building, the platters were tied together and stabilized by another set of steel columns at the outside rim, closely spaced and completely surrounding the structure.  This resulting structure was so stable that the top of the towers swayed only three feet in a high wind.  The architects called it a "tube-within-a-tube design.""

да, внутренняя колонна была не монолитной - там были шахты лифтов.
но утверждение, что целостность зависела только от внешней структуры - мнээ... малоубедительно.

The report exonerates the floor trusses for the collapses. "Failure of the floors...was shown not to have had any significant role in the initiation of the collapses," it says. Эээ, нет, батенька, опять мимо.

Не хочу выставлять себя знатоком английского, но в статье на которую ты указал явно говорится, что "The collapses ... were separately initiated in the impact zone of each tower due to failure of the columns.

В отчете опровергается идея разрушения ферм (trusses), и указывается на причину падения в разрушении колонн. И речь идет о внешних и внутренних колоннах. "Failure of the floors" в статье означает разрушение ферм поддерживающих пол. А не само падение пола, как может быть ты это интерпретировал. "the engineers claim that computer modeling shows that the failure of columns alone, independent of the floors explains the collapses."

Там же и приводятся диаграммы со словами "severely heat-affected exterior columns with no remaining strength", "heat-affected exterior columns with fireproofing knocked off"

Эта статья полностью соответсвует моей точке зрения, а не опровергает ее. Уважу и это мнение тоже :)

Subjectively, for this author, several subevents of the WTC collapses stand out: the reported seismic spikes associated with the collapses; the observed near free-fall times of collapse; the pyroclastic clouds of debris; and the pools of molten steel found in the basement of the WTC tower complex, steel still warm weeks after 9-11. Analysis of the seismic spikes indicate that the seismic spikes correlate with the collapses themselves rather than any pre-collapse explosion [Ref. (4)].
